Apple’s New Invites App Feels Unneeded Even With AI

Apple Intelligence is evolving rapidly, sprinkling AI magic across iOS, macOS, and iPadOS. But then, out of nowhere, Apple decided to drop a new app—Apple Invites. And, well, the collective reaction from most people was a giant: ‘Wait…what?’

Who is this app for?

In theory, Apple Invites is supposed to make event planning effortless. But let’s be honest—did anyone actually struggle to send invites before this? Between Messages, Calendar, and, you know, every other messaging app in existence, was there truly a missing gap that only Apple Invites could fill?

Maybe it’s for the ultra-busy folks who refuse to manually type a ‘Hey, dinner at 7?’ message. Or perhaps it’s aimed at AI-first believers who dream of delegating even the tiniest social tasks to their devices. But from a practical standpoint, it really feels like Apple just wanted a ‘Look! More AI!’ moment rather than solving a real problem.

Less an extension, more a standalone oddity

One would expect Apple Invites to integrate deeply into existing apps, right? Like, why not just supercharge Calendar or iMessage with smarter scheduling? Instead, this feels like an unnecessary extra app that nobody asked for, somehow less convenient than just using Siri to send an invite.

Besides, AI-assisted event planning isn’t new. Gmail’s Smart Compose can predict entire email invites, and apps like Fantastical already have intelligent event coordination. But Apple chose to add yet another icon to our already crowded home screens.

Is the AI actually helping?

Let’s give credit where it’s due—Apple Intelligence probably tries to make invites smarter. Maybe it suggests the best time based on everyone’s availability. Maybe it auto-generates polite invite wording so you don’t have to think about it. But does that really revolutionize scheduling?

Most of us either pick up the phone or send a quick message. A full-blown AI-powered invite system feels like using a sledgehammer to crack a peanut. If anything, this is another case of Apple flexing its AI muscles without necessarily improving the user experience.

Will anyone actually use this?

Honestly, time will tell. Maybe Apple will find a way to make it indispensable, seamlessly tying it into the broader Apple ecosystem. But right now, it kind of feels like an answer to a question no one was asking.

What do you think? Are you excited about a dedicated invite app, or does this feel like a wasted effort? Drop your thoughts—I promise I won’t send you an Apple Invite to discuss it further!
